Uffda Day Parade Seeks Entries

UFF-DA DAY PARADE –  SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2018 –  RUTLAND, NORTH DAKOTA

The 34th Annual Uffda Day Fall Festival is coming up in Rutland on Sunday, October 7, 2018.  Again this year, in addition to the other Uffda Day events and activities, we are going to have a parade.  You are invited to join with us to help make this year’s Uff-Da Day Parade one of the best in the event’s 34-year history.

As you know, Uffda Day is a celebration which emphasizes the Scandinavian and pioneer heritage of the Rutland Community.  You and any organizations you belong to are invited to participate in this year’s Uffda Day Parade.  We encourage you to join us in a celebration of the heritage of ethnic diversity that has so enriched our communities.

We ask, but don’t require, that you notify us in advance if you plan to have a unit in the parade, so we have a chance to keep things somewhat (but not excessively) organized.  The parade will form up on the East side of town, on Dakota Street, and will start, promptly, at 1:00 p.m., so plan to have your unit in place by 12:30 p.m., or a little earlier, if possible.  Lyle Erickson, Richard Lysne and their assistants will be on hand to help you find your place in the 2018 Uff-Da Day Parade.  Please fill out the registration form on this letter and return it to Parade Committee, PO Box 100, Rutland ND 58067, or call 701-724-3467.  For additional Uff-Da Day 2018 information, check out Rutland’s internet website at www.rutlandnd.com; take a look at the Uff-Da Day and Rutland Facebook pages; and, look for The Rutland Leader insert in The Sargent County Teller. 33rd Annual Uffda Day

Rutland is busy already with Uffda Day preparation.  Lefse is rolling off the grills and more will be produced in August.  Plan to spend a fun time in Rutland on Sunday, October 1, 2017! This is our 33rd Annual Event.

30th Annual Uffda Day

Sunday will mark the 30th Annual Rutland Uffda Day.  We have the 5K run in the morning, crafters/vendors (some open at 10 am), food starting at 11 a.m. – abelskievers, Uffda Tacos, rommegrot, the Dinner at the Hall, parade at 1 p.m., tractor pull and more.  Be sure to make it.   Come and enjoy it — it may be the last. It is always a fun event as shown in a few photos from last year.

The 29th Annual Rutland Uffda Day will be held next Sunday, October 6, 2013!  This is the day when the population in the town of 163 swells to over 1,000 — maybe 2,000 — people who come to celebrate the Scandinavian ancestry of Rutland.

Residents have been busy making over 3,000 lefse to be served at the Hall dinner and for sale for visitors to take home and enjoy later.  Other goodies include sandbakkels, krumkake and rosettes.  Visitors can enjoy freshly make abelskievers, Uffda Day Tacos, scalloped potatoes and ham dinner, brats, rommegrot and other edibles.  There are plenty of other things to do during the day as well including:

  • Pioneer demonstrations: hardanger, quilting, embroidery, wool spinning, ice cream and ropemaking
  • Antique tractor demonstrations
  • Classic & antique car show
  • Horse drawn rides
  • Arts & crafts sales
  • Pioneer house & museum
  • Musical entertainment
  • Games & train rides for children
  • Wine tasting
  • 5K walk/run (starting at 9 a.m.; registration at 8:30 a.m.)
  • Nordland church service at 9am
  • Parade at 1:00 pm

Musical entertainment this year will include the NorSweDane Dancers.  The NorSweDane Dancers perform Nordic dances to traditional Scandinavian dance tunes. This exciting group is made up of dancers from Fargo-Moorhead Scandinavian clubs and they are coming to Rutland.

New this year to our events will be the pig races at 2:00 p.m.

Kids can have fun bouncing around in the inflatables, and playing a variety of games and other activities across from the Hall.

Plan to be in Rutland next Sunday.  Come meet old friends and make new ones.  Rutland is always the place to be the first Sunday in October!

Uffda!

It is once again time for the Annual Rutland Uffda Day event in our small town of Rutland. [Click for 2012 Uffda Day Flyer.] This is the one day of the year when the population swells to over 1,000 plus.  Everyone in town has been pitching in for several months to prepare for the big day.  Nearly 4,000 lefse have been rolled; krumkakke and sandbakkels have been baked and shaped; rosettes are done.  Now starts the preparation for the big dinner at the Hall.

This year our parade at 1 p.m. will feature the Aberdeen Bagpipe Band as well as many classic cars as part of the show.  If you are in the area, come on and join the fun.  The weather is never an issue — come rain or shine it’s a good ‘ole time in Rutland on Sunday.

Marketing Grant Award

The North Dakota Department of Tourism recently announced the sixteen recipients of the event or marketing grants and, yes, Rutland got a portion.  The  Coteau des Prairies Lodge, Rutland, received a matching grant award for marketing of the new guest lodge currently under construction.  You can follow the construction progress at the Coteau des Prairies Lodge website. The Events Grant Program and Marketing Grant Program provide a maximum of $5,000 in matching funds for promotion of regional events and for specific tourism marketing plans.
