Rolling, Rolling, Rolling

Well, the Rutland residents have been busy these past few weeks rolling out lefse for Uffda Day.  This year 5,131 lefse were made with the vast majority for sale in packages of three and about 1,000 of those lefse will be available as part of the scalloped potato and ham dinner on Sunday, October 3, 2010.  Up next, the crew will be making krumkake and sandbakkels and then the rosettes — all of which will also be for sale in the American Legion building (now the Rutland Fitness Center).

A new part of the Uffda Day celebration will be the 8 a.m. 5K walk/run heading south of Rutland and then back to town.  Registration forms are available online or at several area locations.   Crafters will be selling their wares starting at 10 a.m.; food booths will begin selling at 11 a.m., including the dinner in the Hall; and the parade will commence at 1 p.m.  Following the parade, there will be a fireman tug-o-war (about 2 p.m.) and children’s games and activities starting shortly thereafter.

So, don’t forget to head to Rutland on Sunday, October 3, for an enjoyable afternoon.  The forecast for the week is sunny and, as The Rooster Crows states, the sun always shines on Rutland (even when it rains!).

Lariat Bar Grand Re-Opening

After closing at its location for over a year, the Lariat Bar held the Grand Opening for its new building on Main Street on Saturday, July 10, 2010, with a free beef barbecue, live music and a street dance. The music was provided by the Earl Fust Band and by Rockin’ Rodney. Construction of the new building, at the same location as the old structure, began in May of 2009 with the completion date originally set for September, but weather delays set back construction schedules, and the new building was not ready for occupancy until late November. During the interim, the Lariat did business from the American Legion Hall at the corner of Bagley & Gay Streets. Owner Janice Christensen is to be commended on the fine facility she has built on Rutland’s Main Street. There is no doubt that the Lariat will continue to play a significant role in the social and civic life of the community for at least another 125 years, or more.

Worm Your Way to Rutland!

That sounds like a pretty good new slogan for Rutland doesn’t it?  We grow those worms pretty big around here as discovered by Herbie Donaldson yesterday. He was making his morning rounds when he saw something in the road and got out to look.  It was a large earthworm on the road, unfortunately already driven over, but none-the-less it proves we grow ’em big around here.  Pam Maloney happened by and helped measure the worm — which was 60 inches long.  Rutland is already known for it’s largest flipped hamburger and maybe now we’ll have a chance at another world record! KFGO ran the story so Rutland made the news too.
